Regardless of whether you're a first-timer or even a seasoned client, when it comes to waxing, you're guaranteed to have some questions. If you've never had your hair stripped from your body, you're bound to be equal parts curious and cautious about what to expect before booking your first appointment. If you're a waxing regular, you probably still wonder about the real rules and best practices for prep and post-wax maintenance.
Even though it's common practice, so much about the hair-removal practice is still shrouded in mystery. With so many conflicting dos and don'ts for waxing, it can be hard to sift through to find the facts. To get to the truth about waxing, we reached out to Noemi Grupenmager, the founder and CEO of Uni K Wax Centers. Here she's shared everything you've wanted to know about waxing but have been too afraid to ask.
1. Don’t Get a Wax While You’re PMSing
While you're absolutely fine to get a wax while on your period, you're better off using a tampon or cup instead. You'll also want to make sure you change your tampon or clean out your cup right before your wax to minimise the risk or worry of period leaks during your wax appointment.
2. There are Numbing Creams, and They Do Work:
NHS medicines information on lidocaine skin cream – what it's used for, side effects, ... There are different types of lidocaine, including mouth gels, throat sprays and ... 2. Key facts. Lidocaine skin cream works quite quickly – it takes 30 to 60 ... Do not apply extra cream, as this will not make the lidocaine work any faster.
3. Pop Some Advil Before You Go (It May Just Give You Peace of Mind):
If you know you’re sensitive to waxing, take one or two Advil before you go to help numb the pain (which tends to be easier than cashing in on a numbing pain, and will do the trick – even if it simply acts as a placebo).
4. Hygiene Really Does Matter:
The hygiene that is happening at your waxing salon really does matter. If your esthetician uses the same vat of wax on you that they used on their last client, get out of there – or if they're constantly double-dipping – ick!
5. All Waxes Are Not Created Equal:
The recommended time between waxing is 5 weeks. ... Not at all. All my services require you to be laying on either your front or your ... Okay, this is a tricky one because when it comes to the hair re-growth cycle we are not all created equal.
6. Shaving Actually Makes Matters Worse:
Frequently shaving between your waxes can actually make your next wax more painful, because the hair follicles will be more rough, and harder to remove. So, although no one wants stubble, it’s worth it to be patient and simply wait until your next appointment instead of grabbing that razor.
7. The More You Wax, the Better Off You Are:
If your hair is longer, I recommend shaving the area and booking your waxing ... away you need to plan your waxing treatments now, for the best results. ... Over time the hair follicle will have less and less of a grip on the hair to be.
8. Exfoliate Down There:
If you’re wondering if you should exfoliate before or after shaving, the answer is before. After softening your hair and skin in the shower, the next step in your hair removal process should be to properly exfoliate the area. Dead skin cells can clog your hair follicles and trap your hair under the skin, which results in ingrowns. Removing dead skin first through a process of exfoliation will not only ensure the hair follicle is in the best condition for hair removal but will also help allow for normal growth post-shave. 안마
9. Stay On Schedule:
Many salons offer “touch-up” appointments if you simply want to get a quick grooming in but aren’t at full growth yet. This is helpful for those who are prone to grab the razor if you see any stubble. Regardless, it’s helpful to stick to a waxing schedule (most people can last 3 or 4 weeks, like mentioned above) to train yourself to get into a routine – like getting your roots done.
10. There are Lots of Different Types, Figure Out What You Want:
There can be a hundred different names for a bikini wax when you go from salon to salon – and you need to decide if you want just your bikini line done, the whole Brazilian, or even the front and back. There are a lot of options, and a lot of different ways to describe it. Most salons have menus (with descriptions) to make it easy for you – but if you ever have questions just ask (before you get in the room with the wrong appointment booked)! It’s the esthetician’s job to explain the procedure, and they’ll be more than happy to get the service right.
